My Manly Vale timber home is finally complete! It has been transformed from a modest post war bungalow, into a contemporary family home.
Set in a bush fire prone land and backing onto bushland, the character of this home is inspired by the materials of Australian rural buildings and its bushland setting.
Robust materials, joyful outdoor spaces, lots of light, managing the hot sun and making the most of the existing modest home; these are the key considerations of this renovation.
The changes are mostly external – a new covered outdoor room complete with operable louvres to block the western sun, a significant pool renovation, new outdoor storage for bikes & surfoards & bins, a carport with covered entry into the home, a new colourbond roof to replace the tiles, new entry & front porch, new driveway, new landscaping and a new paint job. Interally, the renovations included a new kitchen, a new kid’s bedroom, some new doors & windows and a new living room fireplace.
The consistent use of materials & colours inside and outside – the use of australian hardwoods with a natural finish, sandstone blocks & pavers, textured granite paving, weatherboards, colourbond customorb sheeting, along with “monument” and white, feature orange to accent the chimney breast and front door – combine to create the new character.
